About the Site
This site was created with the intention to publish multiple regular podcasts.
The layout was created using Notepad and Adobe Photoshop CS2. I have no clue who the girl is in the image, but my friend Maliciel gave me the type of picture I was looking for so I used it. Turned out OK!
About the Ping’s Top 10 Charts
It all started in October, 2005, when JPH!P radio first opened. I was among the first few who hosted a radio show, and along with suki, five days a week. It was called “Ping’s Top 10 Charts”, where everyday, a different category of top ten songs were played. Including Oricon, Billboard, JPH!P’s last.fm charts, and user’s popular vote every week.
The show branched out as complications arose, eventually forming “Piroriroping//Pinguchi ii!” Piroriroping was a play on the noise a telephone makes “piroriroring” as noted in 安倍なつみ’s song, 恋のテレフォン GOAL. Pinguchi ii! was a play on the Japanese word kimochi ii which means good feeling or it feels good. Together, “Answer the bell!, It’s time to feel good!” The show was about me playing popular songs, which, for the post part, made you feel good.
Eventually, times were changing, and I needed another show as a filler until I could think of a new top 10 chart. Therefore, “Under Construction” was born. The name was intended to infer that it was a filler show until I could put in a real top 10 chart in that position, hence, for that night, the show was still under construction due to my determination to never miss one show. In this show, I played a different album for every night it was necessary.
In February, 2006, two of my harddrives crashed, together combined effectively eliminating my entire mp3 collection of 4000+. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue.
About Ping’s Weekly O-Thirty
One year later, I decided to make a new show once a week dedicated to the Weekly Oricon Top 30 Singles charts combined with a podcast of the shows recording. This show would be called, “Ping’s Weekly O-Thirty.” A few months later, after many difficulties gathering volunteers to help me perfect the show, it is still not complete.
About Plug In with Ping
As an alternative, I decided to create a second show for two reasons.
1) Prepare myself for regularly distributing a podcast.
2) Why listen to only Japanese mainstream artists? There is so much amazing talent in the world. I want to help advertise them to the community. From Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean artists, to all those indie and struggling artists out there that have nothing but a no-name-label and a MySpace page to their name.
And thus, “Plug In with Ping” was born. A play on plugging in your headphones, and being “plugged in” as an expression that you’re becoming more informed of the world around you. And that is what I’m trying to do with this show.
Maybe you dabble into Anime or Japanese culture (or live in Japan) and may be a fan of 浜崎あゆみ or 宇多田ヒカル. Maybe you can’t even read what that says (Ayumi Hamasaki & Hikaru Utada). Possibly you’re Chinese or Taiwanese? Live in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the Mainland? Maybe you just love Chinese culture (or girls)? Maybe you listen to 周杰伦, 孫燕姿, or 張學友 (Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun, or Jacky Cheung). How about on the Korean side of things? BoA? RAIN? 신화 (Shinhwa)?
Maybe you grew up in the US listening to only Britney Spears, Madonna, and Green Day. Maybe you’re a LITTLE older or just like to listen to stuff like The Beatles, The Bee Gees, or Aretha Franklin.
I’m sure we could name hundreds and hundreds more popular artists, but how many unpopular artists with great talent can we name?
Bringin’ it together from the far west to the far east, if you listen, you will be informed about all kinds of artists. From all those popular acts we love (and don’t love), to all those artists who only have a simple blog or MySpace to distribute their music. This is about them.
